2. Scope of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect personal data when you use BeeBuddy, create an account, contact us, or otherwise interact with our website, platform, and related services.

It also explains your rights in relation to your personal data.

3. The personal data we collect

Depending on how you use BeeBuddy, we may collect personal data such as your name, email address, account details, authentication details, learning progress, streaks, quiz and flashcard activity, support messages, technical device information, log data, and information about how you use our platform.

If you sign in using a third-party provider such as Google, Apple, or Facebook, we may receive basic account information from that provider, such as your name, email address, and profile identifier, subject to the provider’s settings and policies.

We do not currently provide public user-generated content features on BeeBuddy.

4. How we collect personal data

We collect personal data directly from you when you create an account, sign in, use learning features, contact support, join a waiting list, respond to communications, or otherwise provide information to us.

We may also collect certain data automatically through the operation of the website and app, including technical and usage information.

Where relevant, we may receive data from third-party login providers, hosting providers, analytics providers, payment providers, and similar service providers involved in operating BeeBuddy.

5. How we use personal data

We use personal data to provide and operate BeeBuddy, create and manage accounts, authenticate users, deliver flashcards, quizzes, progress tracking and streaks, personalise the learning experience, maintain security, detect misuse, respond to support enquiries, improve our services, comply with legal obligations, and communicate with users about their account or the service.

If we offer paid plans, we may also use relevant personal data to process payments, manage subscriptions, provide billing support, and keep financial records.

6. Our lawful bases

Under UK data protection law, we must have a lawful basis for processing personal data.

Depending on the context, we may rely on performance of a contract where processing is necessary to provide BeeBuddy to you, legitimate interests where processing is necessary for running, improving, and securing the platform, compliance with legal obligations where we must retain or disclose information by law, and consent where consent is required for a specific activity.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider and balance our interests against your rights and freedoms.

7. Children’s privacy

BeeBuddy may be used by people under the age of 18 with the involvement, consent, or supervision of a parent or legal guardian where required by applicable law.

Because children’s personal data merits particular protection, we aim to use clear language, minimise unnecessary data collection, and consider children’s interests when designing and operating our service.

Where consent is required in relation to an online service offered directly to a child, we may need to take steps to verify age and, where required by law, obtain or verify parental consent.

8. Cookies and similar technologies

BeeBuddy may use cookies and similar technologies to make the website work, keep users signed in, remember preferences, understand service performance, and improve the platform.

Some cookies or similar technologies may be strictly necessary for the service to function, while others may only be used where required consent has been obtained.

You should also refer to any separate Cookie Notice or cookie controls made available on our site.

9. Marketing communications

We may send service-related communications that are necessary for your account or use of BeeBuddy, such as security, support, billing, or major service update messages.

If we send marketing communications, we will do so in accordance with applicable law and, where required, with your consent or another valid legal basis.

You can opt out of marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us.

10. Sharing personal data

We may share personal data with trusted service providers who help us operate BeeBuddy, such as hosting providers, authentication providers, analytics providers, email and support providers, payment processors, and professional advisers.

We may also share data where required by law, to enforce our legal rights, to protect users or the public, or in connection with a business reorganisation, investment, merger, acquisition, or sale.

We do not sell personal data to third parties.

11. International transfers

Some of our service providers may process personal data outside the United Kingdom.

Where personal data is transferred internationally, we aim to use appropriate safeguards as required by applicable data protection law.

12. Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the service, maintain records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and comply with legal obligations.

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of data and the reason we hold it.

When personal data is no longer needed, we aim to delete it or anonymise it where appropriate.

13. Data security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Your rights

Depending on your circumstances and applicable law, you may have the right to request access to your personal data, request correction of inaccurate data, request erasure, request restriction of processing, object to certain processing, request portability of certain data, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe your data protection rights have been breached.

15. Third-party links and services

BeeBuddy may contain links to third-party websites or rely on third-party services such as login, payment, hosting, analytics, or communication tools.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify users, such as by email, in-app notice, or by posting the updated policy on our website.
